Our Journey into Freedom

A Six-Step Path of Lifelong Discovery and Discipleship

Journey into Freedom (Website)

At the heart of our church vision is the Journey into Freedom - a simple yet life-changing six-step pathway designed to help each of us grow in faith, walk closely with Jesus, and live out his purposes in the world. It is a spiritual roadmap for individuals but also a shared vision that unites us as a church family, helping us move forward together in the same direction.

This journey is about more than personal growth - it’s about becoming the people and the community God calls us to be.

By following these steps, we are equipped to live in the freedom Jesus offers and to help others discover and walk in that same freedom.

1. Discovery – Encountering the Good News of Jesus

Every journey begins with a moment of discovery - when we first hear and truly grasp the good news that Jesus brings.

This is more than learning religious facts; it’s the life-changing realisation that God’s kingdom has come near through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

We are invited to receive forgiveness, freedom, and a new identity in him. The journey starts when we encounter the living Jesus, who calls us into relationship with God.

“The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news.” - Mark 1:15

2. Decision – Embracing the invitation of Jesus to follow him

Hearing the good news calls for a response. The second step is Decision - personally choosing to follow Jesus. This means repenting (turning away from sin), believing in Jesus for salvation, and beginning a new life empowered by the Holy Spirit.

This decision is often marked by baptism, symbolising our new identity and new beginning in Christ. It’s the start of a transformed life as a disciple, not merely as a believer.

“Come, follow me.” - Matthew 4:19

3. Discipleship – Embarking on the lifestyle of Jesus through the rhythms of grace

Following Jesus is a journey of growth. Discipleship means learning to live His way - allowing our character, habits, and priorities to be shaped by him.

We grow through spiritual practices: reading Scripture, prayer, worship, serving others, and building healthy rhythms of grace into our daily lives. This is how we are steadily transformed into Christ’s likeness - restored into the image of God and filled with his love, mercy, and righteousness.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” - Matthew 5:6

4. Membership – Engaging with the people of Jesus in the local church

The Christian life is not meant to be lived in isolation. In Membership, we commit ourselves to the church family—the people of Jesus - where we share life, grow together, and encourage one another in faith.

This is about more than attendance; it’s about belonging, participating, and taking responsibility for one another’s spiritual journey. As John Wesley said, “There is no holiness but social holiness.” Together, we are the Body of Christ.

“Encourage one another and build each other up.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:11

5. Ministry – Enlisting in the mission of Jesus to serve one another and bringing His freedom to a world in need

Every believer is called to serve. Ministry means stepping into the mission of Jesus by using our gifts, time, and talents to serve others - both within the church and in the wider community.

Ministry reflects the heart of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. It’s through acts of mercy, kindness, justice, and witness that we make Jesus known to the world. In giving, we receive; in serving, we grow.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” - Matthew 25:40

6. Maturity – Evolving into the likeness of Jesus, becoming like him in every area of life

The final step is Maturity - the ongoing, lifelong process of being transformed into the likeness of Christ. This is not about perfection, but about progress: becoming more loving, more holy, and more Christlike in every area of life.

As we daily surrender to the Holy Spirit, God shapes us into people of love, humility, faith, and integrity. Maturity is not a destination but a journey that continues as we live and love like Jesus.

“We are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory.” - 2 Corinthians 3:18
